SCEFL Premier Division

Saturday 30th November

A point gained or two points lost? It was hard to quite know after the league leaders narrowly avoided a shock defeat at struggling Erith & Belvedere. Stefan Cox’s 90th minute equaliser rescuing a point for the visitors.

On a poor sequence of results and having slipped worryingly down the table the Dere’s had been strengthening their squad recently and it was Ramell Lake (whose arrival from Ashford United had been announced just three days earlier) who put them ahead in the 72nd minute. A throw-out from Becks’ keeper Michael McEntegart found Cox who was arguably then fouled. Play continued and having won possession the cross was then put home by Lake.

Meanwhile Dan Teeley in the Dere’s goal with help from both post and bar had been impressive throughout as Becks’ pressure failed to produce the usual goals. With time ticking down, it was the mercurial Cox who found himself in a good position to beat his man once, twice and then a third time before unleashing a shot that went under Teeley’s arms.

Becks had a chance to win it after that but instead had to settle for their first league draw of the season. The result means Becks sit atop of the table with just a six point lead over chasing Chatham Town but still with those potentially all important two games in hand which could double that gap. Erith & Belvedere meanwhile are struggling in 17th, six points above Greenwich Borough at the foot of the table.
