BECKENHAM TOWN 1-3 GLEBE

Wednesday 21st August

On a warm evening at the EPA, Becks looked set to move up to the top of the table facing a Glebe side without a point this season. When Shameek Farrell put the home side ahead in the 27th minute it seemed that the game would go true to form. Junior Kaffo’s positivity winning the loose ball and heading it down to Ryan Hall started the move. Hall then laid it off to Farrell who’s left footed shot across the keeper was too good as it swept into the far side netting.

The referee struggled in this game, not punishing some dangerous and unnecessary tackles early on made it hard for him to then keep consistent especially in the latter stages. He awarded a seemingly very soft free kick on the right corner of the box for Glebe right before half time. It was rolled to Matt Parsons and the deflected free kick went flying into the near top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Becks were the better team until they scored but after that it was either equal or the visitors that looked more likely to take the three points. They appeared to have done exactly that with Scott Kinch’s goal in the 82nd minute. A free kick was dinked dangerously into the box behind the defensive line and Kinch controlled it to the right before quite brilliantly hooking the ball backwards into the left corner away from the incoming goalkeeper.

The visitors wrapped up the three points in stoppage time as a good shot was saved but spilled across the face of goal giving Jack Harris the easy task of hitting it home into the empty net and making it 3-1.

Becks dropped points for the first time this season, the result has seen us drop to 7th in the league table while Glebe’s first points of the season have moved them up to 16th. We face Ashford United at home in the FA Cup Preliminary Round in our next game on Saturday 24th August before hosting Erith Town in the league on the Bank Holiday Monday just two days later.
