FA Vase First Qualifying Round

Saturday 31st August

Following a busy bank holiday weekend which saw an FA Cup exit and a comfortable league win, Becks returned to action in a visit to Green Lane where they met CB Hounslow United in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round. The Combined Counties Premier Division side had lost their last game by a single goal and have had a similar start to the season as Raynes Park Vale who we saw off in the FA Cup earlier in the month.

Going into the game both sides knew they had a great chance to progress in the competition and Becks landed the first punch as Ryan Hall put them ahead after just 10 minutes. The lead didn’t last too long because Greenwood got the home side back on level terms in the 21st minute, then an own goal just three minutes later was a real sucker punch and left Becks a goal behind only 14 minutes after taking the lead and now fearing another cup exit.

Thankfully the fight continued, although Ryan Hall left it very late to score his and Becks’ second goal of the game. The equaliser in added time of the second half was a hammer blow to the Dragons as it took the game to extra time to the relief of the visitors and despair of the home side.

With the game heading towards a penalty shootout, it was time for someone to make their mark and send their team through to the next round. Ashley Carew did just that to deliver the knockout blow in this slobber knocker of a football match. The goal came with only two minutes remaining in the game and it was enough to send Becks into the Second Qualifying Round.

Next up for the Becks is an away trip to Fisher in the league before hosting Farnham Town in the next round of the FA Vase. They beat Langney Wanderers in their tie.
