Our SCEFL season come to a close with two victories in a week, last Saturday we beat Hollands & Blair while on Monday night we thrashed Erith Town 4 0 away from home, with goals coming from Atkins, Owen, Marvin and Archie Johnson. Also we gave a run out to our OAP assistant manager Jason Clewes, as he prepares himself to take up walking football.
Below is our match report from the Hollands & Blair fixture.
Following two good away wins against Whitstable and Canterbury, Beckenham welcomed struggling Hollands & Blair who knew a win would keep them above relegation no matter what the teams around them did as we close into the final days of the season.
The match started with the visitors looking up for it and taking the game to Becks. The pressure told as they took the lead from the ball being played across and James McDonald slid it past the keeper. Immediately from the restart the hosts looked for an equaliser as a ball down the left was crossed in hard and low with the keeper just getting there before the attacker and making it his at the second time of asking. Beckenham did get on level terms before the break through league top scorer Richard Atkins who notched his 35th of the season with a near post header played in from the right.
Jamie hit the post so early in the second half that quite a few fans didn’t see it, the follow up was then tipped over the bar by the goalkeeper. This set the tone for the majority of the second half as Becks pushed for a goal to take the lead. Marvin Alebiosu gave Beckenham the win after they soaked up the away side’s pressure and rounded the keeper on the counter attack to put it in the empty net. Richard Atkins had a chance to add his 36th of the campaign from the penalty spot as a result of a handball but the keeper made a good save to his right.
The win keeps Beckenham in 4th while thanks to Rusthall’s huge loss to Croydon, Hollands & Blair finish two points clear of relegation. As it was the last home match of the season Richard Atkins was rightfully commended and awarded with player of the season for his brilliant goal tally.
Its been a good season overall and I hope to see you all to show big support for the team next season.
