AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC 1-6 BECKENHAM TOWN
SCEFL Premier Division
Tuesday 8th October
Having been re-arranged, cancelled, re-arranged and the cancelled again this game – only taking place after the original match back on Tuesday August 6th was abandoned after a serious injury in the second half – finally took place.
Athletic were coming off a tough 1-0 home loss the previous Saturday to a gutsy, gritty, hard working Welling Town. Becks were sitting pretty at the top of the table for the first time this season following their eventful 2-1 away win at Tunbridge Wells.
This Becks side clearly has a head for heights as it took just 11 minutes for skipper Ashley Carew to provide lift-off with the opening goal. Two more goals inside the opening half an hour, first from forward Ryan Hall and then defender Ike Robertson put Town firmly in control.
A low drive into the corner from Jake Rose just before half-time gave the Rams some hope heading into the sheds. But two goals in two minutes just after the hour, Carew’s second of the night and another from LB Archie Johnson extended the lead to 5-1. With the game already over Jamie Brown added a sixth in the dying minutes to complete the rout.
The win takes Becks five points clear at the top with two games in hand over Chatham Town in second who are also our next opponents as we clash in the FA Vase.
