With not one, not two but three 3-2 victories we have opened our first ever Step 4 campaign in the most remarkable way.

We started our journey in thirty three degree heat at Culver Road on the south coast. Lancing were the hosts for this historic occasion, having just about avoided relegation last season they were now in their second Step 4 season. The Lancers struck the first blow taking the lead through Tyrone Madhani. Becks were only behind for a quarter of an hour however as Louis Theophanous tapped in Jamie Humphris’ cross for what will be the first of many goals at this level.

Madhani struck again to put us on the back foot again. Humphris became our first booking at Step 4 midway through the second half before Danny Waldren volleyed from the edge of the box and emphatically equalised for Becks. Late on the Lancing goalkeeper sent a weak header from outside the box towards Alfie Bloomfield who duly lofted the ball over keeper and defenders into the unattended net and win our debut match.

Next up was our first home game at this level, a Tuesday evening clash with old SCEFL rivals Corinthian. Theophanous and Harvey Brand gave us a 2-0 lead after just six minutes and The EPA was dreaming of a massive opening win. However we were pegged back with a goal either side of half time and the points looked like they were going to be shared. That was until Jamie Humphris scored a last minute winner to send the home crowd wild, the flags flew and the knee slide of dreams as Becks went top of the league with a 100% record.

We then welcomed old friends K Sports to The EPA for the FA Cup to round of this seven day stint. We beat Horsham YMCA¬† 3-0 to reach the Preliminary Round. We again went 3-0 up, by the sixty minute mark goals from Luke Hedges, Theophanous continuing to average a goal a game and Brand put the hosts in the driving seat. The visitors scored two late goals to worry Becks but they couldn’t find an equaliser and we go through to the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

So to be clear, that’s nine Becks goals in seven days (better than one a day), three wins from three, never a dull moment, electric home crowds, always competitive and a very exciting team. What a week!
